MY OKIEDOKIE DEPARTURE
Since I’m a goner, Docs explain
they need the hospital bed,
and move me to Hospice
for palliative care.
While loved ones wait for a call
to inform them of my demise,
I gaze out the window
at a new-blooming weeping cherry tree
and see a robin fly against a gust of wind
over a canopy of snowdrops and daffodils.
Signs of spring make me realize
that when I disappear into thin air,
this wondrous world will still be here.
I will finally find out the secrets
of the unsayable as I take my place
among the stars.
